Howdy, scriptural firefighters!
Today, we’re diving into the world of Scripture combat to tackle temptation and give the devil’s lies a good ol’ spiritual soaking. So, grab your holy hoses and divine fire extinguishers, and let’s explore James 1:17-18!
17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
James 1:17–18 (NIV)
James tells us that every good and perfect gift comes from God (v 17), and that includes the powerful weapon of Scripture. By cramming our heads with God’s Word, we can outwit the devil’s deceit like firefighters dousing a sneaky blaze.
When temptation rears its ugly head, whip out Scripture like a trusty fire hose. Find verses that target the specific temptation and commit them to memory. When the devil tries to entice you with his lies, blast back with Scripture and remind yourself of God’s truth.
Don’t forget, Jesus Himself used Scripture to resist temptation in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). If it worked for the Him, it could work for us too!
So, scriptural firefighters, let’s fight fire with fire by using God’s Word to short-circuit temptation and send the devil’s lies up in smoke. With Scripture as our weapon and trusty utility belt, we’re more than conquerors in Christ!
What are some fire-fighting verses you can memorize to help combat temptation in your life?
Psalms 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
When I am feeling weak or when my thoughts are kicking my butt with temptation. I will pray and ask God to help me wholeheartedly. I will reach out to my sister or my friends for support.
1 Corinthians 10:13: No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
And
Hebrews 4:15
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.”
(from Maury)
I once heard this verse and I could feel the power in it I believe it is in Matthew…” As God’s children we stand on our feet, we bow for No evil we do not fear, what can man do to me?” Yes there are countless Proverbs and John scriptures ” For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son for those that believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting life”🙏 I have lots to live for now and I didn’t think so at the end of last year… God gave me love and I’m expressing it as the best of my ability…
A verse for me is Joshua 1:9 be strong and courageous do not be afraid do not be discouraged for the lord your God is with you everywhere you go.
I think for me often times when I do fall into temptations I’m hard on myself but this reminds me to not be discouraged but keep fighting the good fight. Also a reminder to stay firm when temptations do come.
