“We believed the Heavenly Father, who loves His servants, could take better care of our children than we could.” This shift in perspective really stood out to me – that this isn’t about willful neglect, rash decisions, or seeking to take control, but rather full faith. I found comfort in knowing that as much as I may want something, if God’s working in a way that calls me to something I wasn’t prepared for, although it may be costly He will support me and those around me better than I ever could on my own. Even though i don’t have children yet, I can trust God will care for other areas of my life if I obey, and not use it as an excuse to pardon my absence. God, help me to understand the gravity of obedience, but how much greater the worth of faith and adjustment to Your will is
I definitely did not understand the depth of how costly it is to Follow God. I knew it was costly for me, but after today’s passage it can very costly for the people around us. I feel like it just makes it even harder to follow God when you realize that there can be so much at stake. It is very costly, but God is greater. When the author talks about the story with his kids and how he was gone for most of their growing age, it reminded me of the type of faith He had in God to care for his children. To care even better than he or his wife ever could. I pray that I would have that level of faith that God will take care of those around me when it will cost them a lot as well.
The story of Hudson Taylor was touching to me. As he felt God asking him to do missionary work all the way across the world, even when his mother would be alone. This is an incredibly life changing, God-sized task… and to have the strength to go through with it is amazing. But I wonder if his mother hadn’t been a believer and so supportive would he have still gone. “His mother loved the Lord so much she was willing to pay the price of releasing her son to missions.”
If she was still battling her own faith journey and struggling on her walk with the Lord I wonder if he’d still go. I don’t know if I’d be able to leave a parent knowing they haven’t truly seen the love of God yet. Idk, This was a tough devotional just because these adjustments God has people make in their life in this book always seem more and more steep.
So I pray Lord that you can lend me the strength to be able to respond to these God sized events in my life. I thank you for all you’ve done in my life and pray to be able to help spread what you’ve done for me to others.
Every single one of us has to pay a price for our obedience to adjust our lives according to God’s will. Our Heavenly Father will reveal His plans and purposes to us but our obedience will impact us and others around us. Our decisions and choices need to base on God’s Words. When we obey the Father, we could trust Him to take care of the rest. At a crisis time in our lives, we would learn to seek Him more and use His words to encourage each other to obey God. Christ is the Head when the people of God are the body of Christ. The whole body must come to Christ for an understanding of God’s will for that body. We must also learn to trust Christ to communicate with His people. God allows us to serve Him in many different ways and some ways will have life-changing experiences as a result of such an opportunity. We have to keep in mind that whatever God may ask of us today or in the future, our answer is always yes!
