In the list of “things only God can do”, number 6 resonates with me, it says “[He] convicts the world of judgment. This stays with me because I need to be reminded that everything I do here on earth is ultimately for God’s glory and His kingdom. Sometimes I do things thinking they will benefit me but the reality is that I own nothing and that my work, if not for God, is in vain. God brings judgment to world for the things we do. This honestly scares me because when I stand in front of God, I want to be able to say God, my effort here on earth are for you and that I’ve worked my best.
God, I pray that You would convict me and move into action so that Your name and glory would be know.
“Find out what God is already doing by asking probing questions.” Sometimes when people share to me about how they have seen a glimpse of God, I feel that I should not probe them with more questions because I do not want to “push Jesus” onto them or overstep. However, this devotion shows that this is an opportunity and God is already working in them. I need to be more aware of the small ways God is working even in my non-Christian friends’ lives. He may be using us to share the Gospel to them. I pray that God will give me the courage to share His Gospel to those around me and not be scared to ask questions and dig deeper when opportunities arise. May He open up my eyes to see when He was at work and help me to decipher how He can use me.
Today’s passage made various good points to me. One example I resonated with was praying out of uncertainty of what God wanted to do through me. I aspire to have a tender and sensitive heart that will always respond to God from the slightest promptings. The only way I can do this is through a love relationship with God and then I’ll be able to be in tune with what he wants to do with the circumstances happening around me. Another thing that stood out to me is that God is at work when someone comes to Christ curious about spiritual matters. I never thought of this in this kind of light and I’m now more inspired to reach out to those who are becoming new Christians and being readily available for them on their journey to knowing Christ.
From Ciara
The most meaningful statement today was unless God opens your spiritual eyes you will not know He is the One at work. He takes the initiative to open your eyes. When you become a Christian, you enter a love relationship with Jesus Christ,-God Himself.
THINGS GOD CAN ONLY DO:
1. Draws people to Himself
2. Causes people to seek Him
3. Reveals spiritual truth
4. Convicts the world of guilt about sin
5. Convicts the world of righteousness
6. Convicts the world of judgement
When you see one of these things happening, you know God is at work. He said “What I have said, that will bring about;I have planned, that will I do.” He Himself will bring it to pass.
You got to pray and see what God does next.
God speaks when He is about to accomplish His purposes. What God initiates He completes. Whatever God says inevitably occurs.
Dear Lord thank you for this bible study today and I hope you will help us get to know you and see what you do next. I hope that we will all get to be with you once we pass on over time. I think that you will open our spiritual eyes and see you. And when we become a Christian, we will enter a love relationship with Jesus Christ. YOU yourself. -Amen
Through today reading, I am reminded to surrender my heart most importantly to the Lord. Setting aside my comfort or anything that holds me from God in my heart in order to hear and respond to the Lord of the things He wants to me to pursue for His purpose. To not base decisions off my human point of view, but through God’s. Being patient to see what God has in store as He prepares me. Through what He puts on my heart, I need to be intentional and consistent no matter how much discomfort it may bring because through it my relationship will also with You Father.
Lord I pray for You to soften my heart so that it is less of me and more of You Lord. To follow through the commands You place on my heart in order to grow Your kingdom and fulfill Your will. Only through You Lord can we overcome and the things that glorify You are completed.
