The reading today was good but a little discouraging in how impossible true koinonia is. Like none of us can love God with all of our selves. In 1 John, he talks about loving the world and things of it. And it’s in our nature to love these things. But the good news is we don’t have to be perfect. Jesus is the only one who can have perfect fellowship with God and can cover for us. He gives the perfect example of how we will love God for all eternity once our earthly bodies pass. And in the spirit of thanksgiving, I am thankful for Jesus coming down to earth and give us an example of how to live. It’s a pretty basic tenet of our faith, but it’s still worth remembering and being thankful for.
“The threat to fellowship is anything that causes you to lose your first love for God.” This is a good reminder for me to keep all my priorities and thoughts in check. It’s okay to love other things, but when that begins to affect my choices and actions more than my love for God, I know that I’m idolizing and guilty of spiritual adulterous. Lord, help me to love you more than the other things of this world. Thank you for your great love and grace that redeems me even when I fall short of that
The basic element of salvation and eternal life is Koinonia with God. It is also an experience of His presence. Although God takes the initiative to invite us into a love relationship with Him, we must respond to Him so that we can fully experience God’s grace and mercy. We need to identify and understand some essentials of genuine koinonia with God to guard against broken fellowship. No individual or group can function as the head of the body if that church is to be a healthy body. Every member of the church must submit to Christ’s lordship over his life and to Christ’s headship over the church.
“When your love is not pure towards God, fellowship with God is broken. Your fellowship with others will then reflect your broken fellowship with God.”
This line stuck with me because I find it hard for me to lead or serve anything when I’m not straight with God. I feel guilty or like phony when Im not walking right with God. This has happened to me before. Where I find my heart at the wrong place so my actions don’t line up with possibly what God wanted.
So this leads me to pray that through these lessons I can really mature and understand what it means to be intimate with the Lord. I think right now in life I just want to be able to grow deeper with God.
