{"id":225883,"date":"2025-11-12T01:32:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T08:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vayhub.us\/rdpt22\/?p=225883"},"modified":"2025-11-10T20:35:04","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T03:35:04","slug":"gea10-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vayhub.us\/rdpt22\/gea10-3","title":{"rendered":"GeA10-3: A Better Unity, A New Humanity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">Genesis 11:1\u20139 (NIV84)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><sup>1<\/sup>Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. <sup>2<\/sup>As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. <sup>3<\/sup>They said to each other, \u201cCome, let\u2019s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.\u201d They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. <sup>4<\/sup>Then they said, \u201cCome, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.\u201d <sup>5<\/sup>But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. <sup>6<\/sup>The Lord said, \u201cIf as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. <sup>7<\/sup>Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.\u201d <sup>8<\/sup>So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. <sup>9<\/sup>That is why it was called Babel\u2014because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Acts 2:1\u201313 (NIV84)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><sup>1<\/sup>When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. <sup>2<\/sup>Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. <sup>3<\/sup>They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. <sup>4<\/sup>All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. <sup>5<\/sup>Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. <sup>6<\/sup>When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. <sup>7<\/sup>Utterly amazed, they asked: \u201cAre not all these men who are speaking Galileans? <sup>8<\/sup>Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? <sup>9<\/sup>Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, <sup>10<\/sup>Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome <sup>11<\/sup>(both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs\u2014we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!\u201d <sup>12<\/sup>Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, \u201cWhat does this mean?\u201d <sup>13<\/sup>Some, however, made fun of them and said, \u201cThey have had too much wine.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The story of Babel, with its fractured languages and scattered peoples, finds its stunning reversal centuries later on the streets of Jerusalem. In Genesis, humanity seeks to ascend to heaven on the back of its own ambition. In Acts, God descends to humanity in the form of His Spirit. The result of the first is confusion; the result of the second is miraculous understanding. This is not a coincidence; it is the deliberate unmaking of a curse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">At Babel, men of one language were suddenly unable to understand each other. At Pentecost, men of many different languages\u2014Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and more\u2014are suddenly able to understand the apostles in their own native tongues. Luke provides this long list of nations, this new &#8220;Table of Nations,&#8221; to draw a direct line back to Genesis 10. He is showing us that God is now undoing the division that sin created. The pride that led to the tower resulted in alienation and strife. The grace of the cross, proclaimed by the apostles, results in communion and fellowship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This reveals God\u2019s ultimate solution to the problem of human disunity. It is not a new political system, a universal language, or a globalist project. The solution is the gospel. Through the work of Jesus Christ, the dividing walls of hostility are broken down. The church is to be an &#8220;alternate city&#8221; in the midst of the cities of man, a place where the unity that was lost at Babel is recovered. This new community is not based on shared ethnicity, language, or culture, but on a shared faith in Christ. It is a foretaste of the final city, the New Jerusalem, where people &#8220;from every tribe and language and people and nation&#8221; will be gathered, not to make a name for themselves, but to praise the name of the Lamb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Reflect, Share &amp; Prayer:<\/strong> The curse of Babel was confusion and division. The blessing of Pentecost was understanding and unity in Christ. Where in your life or community can you be an agent of this Pentecost-like unity, bridging gaps between people who are different from you?
