{"id":225817,"date":"2025-10-30T01:16:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T08:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vayhub.us\/rdpt22\/?p=225817"},"modified":"2025-10-29T21:22:44","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T04:22:44","slug":"gea08-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vayhub.us\/rdpt22\/gea08-4","title":{"rendered":"GeA08-4: Saved Through Water"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">Genesis 7:1\u20135 (NIV84)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><sup>1<\/sup>The Lord then said to Noah, \u201cGo into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. <sup>2<\/sup>Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, <sup>3<\/sup>and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. <sup>4<\/sup>Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.\u201d <sup>5<\/sup>And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">1 Peter 3:20\u201322 (NIV84)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><sup>20<\/sup>who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved <em>through<\/em> water, <sup>21<\/sup>and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also\u2014not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, <sup>22<\/sup>who has gone into heaven and is at God\u2019s right hand\u2014with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If you had asked Noah what he needed to be saved <em>from<\/em>, he would have surely answered, &#8220;the water.&#8221; Yet the Apostle Peter, reflecting on this ancient story, makes a startling claim. He says that Noah and his family were \u201csaved <em>through<\/em> water\u201d. How can this be? The very instrument of judgment that drowned the world became the instrument of salvation for the ark. The waters that brought death and destruction to all who were outside the ark were the same waters that lifted the ark up, carrying it safely above the chaos and death below. Salvation came not by avoiding the waters of judgment, but by being safely hidden in a vessel that could pass through them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Peter immediately connects this picture to our own salvation. The waters, he says, symbolize baptism, which saves us not by the physical act of washing, but by what it represents: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We, like Noah\u2019s world, stand under the just judgment of God. The waters of His justice should rightly consume us. But if we are in Christ &#8211; the true Ark &#8211; something incredible happens. The very judgment of God becomes our salvation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">How is this possible? Because on the cross, the ultimate flood of God\u2019s judgment against sin was poured out upon Jesus. As the drowning waters beat upon the ark, so the full measure of punishment we deserved fell upon Him. God\u2019s own justice now demands that if we are in Christ, we must be forgiven, for the debt has been fully paid. Therefore, the very justice and righteousness of God that would otherwise condemn us now become our staunchest allies. The waters of judgment that should sink us instead lift us up to new life, carrying us safely to heaven because we are hidden in Him. This is the great reversal of the gospel: God\u2019s righteous judgment, absorbed by Christ, becomes the very engine of our salvation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Reflect, Share &amp; Prayer:<\/strong> The same water that judged the world saved Noah. The cross of Christ is both the ultimate display of God&#8217;s judgment on sin and the ultimate expression of His saving love for you. How does this deep paradox give you confidence and hope today?
