{"id":225804,"date":"2025-10-28T01:22:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T08:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vayhub.us\/rdpt22\/?p=225804"},"modified":"2025-10-25T09:25:59","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T16:25:59","slug":"gea08-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vayhub.us\/rdpt22\/gea08-2","title":{"rendered":"GeA08-2: The Tears that Judge the World"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">Genesis 6:6-8, 11-13; 7:17-23 (NIV84)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><sup>6<\/sup>The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. <sup>7<\/sup>So the Lord said, \u201cI will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth\u2014men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air\u2014for I am grieved that I have made them.\u201d <sup>8<\/sup>But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><sup>11<\/sup>Now the earth was corrupt in God\u2019s sight and was full of violence. <sup>12<\/sup>God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. <sup>13<\/sup>So God said to Noah, \u201cI am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><sup>17<\/sup>For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. <sup>18<\/sup>The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. <sup>19<\/sup>They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. <sup>20<\/sup>The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet. <sup>21<\/sup>Every living thing that moved on the earth perished\u2014birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. <sup>22<\/sup>Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. <sup>23<\/sup>Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; men and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">We are caught in a bind. We cry out against a God who allows injustice, yet we recoil from a God who judges it with such terrifying finality as a flood. We want a God of mercy and a God of justice, without knowing how He can possibly be both. But the story of the Flood begins not with the fury of water, but with the tears of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Before the first drop of rain, the world is already drenched in divine sorrow. We are told God is \u201c<em>grieved<\/em>\u201d and His heart is \u201c<em>filled with pain<\/em>.\u201d This is not the measured disappointment of a king; it is the raw agony of a lover who has voluntarily shackled His own heart to the beloved. In granting our free will at creation, He guaranteed His own suffering in our rebellion. It is the terrible, self-imposed bond of a parent whose heart must break with their child\u2019s heartbreak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Here the text gives up its secret. The Hebrew word for God\u2019s \u201c<em>pain<\/em>\u201d is the same that describes our cursed anguish in the Garden: the pain of childbirth, the pain of toil. God is not inflicting wrath in alienation to pain; He is absorbing into His own heart the very agony we unleashed upon the world with our sins. The world\u2019s self-destruction has become His own personal torment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Seen through these tears, the Flood becomes something else entirely. It is not a cosmic tantrum, but a terrible surgery. It is the agonizing work of a Divine Surgeon whose hands tremble with grief as He cuts away a terminal cancer to save His own child. What looks like wrath is a love so fierce it must wound to heal. The purpose of the flood was not annihilation, but a desperate act of preservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Ark is the proof. It is the vessel of grace floating upon the very waters of judgment, a sign that the Surgeon\u2019s ultimate intent is not to kill, but to save. It is a promise that His heart, though breaking, is moved by a love that will, in the end, preserve a future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Reflect, Share &amp; Prayer:<\/strong> We desire a God whose love is always gentle. But how does this image of God as the Divine Surgeon\u2014whose love is so absolute it must sometimes be terrifying\u2014change how you endure your own trials and the world&#8217;s suffering?
