{"id":225750,"date":"2025-10-10T01:17:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T08:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vayhub.us\/rdpt22\/?p=225750"},"modified":"2025-10-09T19:56:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T02:56:08","slug":"gea05-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vayhub.us\/rdpt22\/gea05-5","title":{"rendered":"GeA05-5: The Eyes That Opened to Shame"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">Genesis 3:7\u20138 (NIV84)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><sup>7<\/sup>Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. <sup>8<\/sup>Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The serpent promised their eyes would be opened, and indeed they were. The tragic irony is that they did not open to see a world of divine power, but to see their own profound brokenness. The first result of sin was not a lightning bolt from heaven, but a collapse from within. Their relationship with themselves was the first casualty. Where once there was the freedom of being &#8220;naked and unashamed,&#8221; there was now the self-conscious prison of shame. Guilt says, &#8220;I did something wrong.&#8221; Shame, its more insidious cousin, says, &#8220;I <em>am<\/em> something wrong.&#8221; At the core of their being, they now felt an inescapable sense of unease and wrongness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This internal fracture immediately caused external fractures. Their relationship with each other was broken. \u201cThey sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.\u201d The very first act of human culture was an act of concealment\u2014a desperate attempt to hide from one another, to manage what the other could see. The transparency of Eden was gone, replaced by fear and mistrust. Yet this outward hiding flowed from a deeper rupture: their communion with God had already been severed. Once the heart turns from its Maker, it can no longer bear unguarded presence\u2014not with Him, nor with anyone else. Thus begins the long story of human brokenness: a fractured relationship with God giving birth to a fractured self, and from that self, fractured all other relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Reflect, Share &amp; Pray:<\/strong> How do you see the dynamics of shame, hiding from others, and hiding from God playing out in your own life or in the world around you?
