She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The great cosmic treason did not happen in a flash of irrationality, but through a calculated progression involving every part of human nature. The verse gives us a chillingly precise anatomy of the choice. First came the emotions and desires: &#8220;the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye.&#8221; The desire for beauty and for nourishment is not, in itself, evil. It was a good desire. The problem was that this good desire had become <em>inordinate<\/em>; it had grown larger than the desire to please God, overthrowing the proper order of her heart and becoming an idol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Next, the mind engaged, providing the rationalization. The tree was also &#8220;desirable for gaining wisdom.&#8221; Her intellect, now detached from its anchor in God&#8217;s truth, began to build a logical case for disobedience. She reasoned that a tree named for knowledge must surely provide it, and this seemed a worthy goal. Her logic was flawed only because its premise was flawed\u2014the assumption that she, not God, was the wiser judge of how to attain wisdom.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Finally, with the heart&#8217;s desire and the mind&#8217;s permission, the will acted. &#8220;She took some and ate it.&#8221; This progression\u2014from disordered desire, to flawed reasoning, to a rebellious will\u2014is the pattern of our own sin. It reminds us that sin is not just about doing bad things, but about loving good things too much, loving them more than the God who gave them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Reflect, Share &amp; Pray:<\/strong> Think of a recent temptation you faced. How did you see your emotions, your mind (your rationalizations), and your will working together in that moment?
