Rahab’s Risky Faith

Fri. May 19, 2023

Greetings, faith thrill-seekers!

Are you ready for an adrenaline-pumping adventure into the world of risky faith? Today, we’ll explore the story of Rahab, the unexpected heroine who teaches us that faith-driven risks can have a life-changing impact. But let’s not confuse “risky faith” with “stupid faith.” Rahab’s faith was based on discernment and wisdom, not reckless choices. So, strap on your faith parachute, and let’s dive into this high-flying tale of courage and redemption with wisdom as our guide!

As we zoom into James 2:24-25, we meet Rahab, a woman whose background might not scream “faith role model” at first glance. But hold onto your faith goggles, folks, because her story is about to take an unexpected twist!

24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

James 2:24–26 (ESV)

Enter the Israelite spies, on a top-secret mission to scout out the land of Jericho (Joshua 2:1-7). Rahab, recognizing their divine assignment, makes the bold decision to hide them from the authorities, risking her own safety in the process. Talk about a faith-fueled leap of courage!

So, what’s the secret sauce that makes Rahab’s faith extra spicy? It’s the perfect blend of belief, action, and discernment. Her daring choice to protect the spies showed that her faith wasn’t just a bunch of empty words – it was a heart-pounding, risk-taking, life-transforming force to be reckoned with, while still being grounded in wisdom and understanding.

And the lessons we can glean from Rahab’s risky faith? For one, it demonstrates that no matter our past, our faith in God can lead to redemption and transformation. And secondly, it’s a reminder that taking wise, faith-driven risks for God’s kingdom can have a lasting impact, not just on our own lives, but on the lives of others and even on history itself.

So, fellow faith thrill-seekers, are you ready to take a leap of faith like Rahab? Whether it’s a bold act of service, a courageous stand for justice, or simply stepping out of your comfort zone, let Rahab’s story inspire you to embrace the risks that come with living out your faith, while always remembering to exercise discernment and wisdom.

What is one faith-driven, wise risk you can take this week, and how might it lead to life-changing transformations for you and those around you?

I know as a Christian I need to share my faith and share the good news of the gospel is what I should be doing. Honestly sometimes it’s kinda hard because I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable or offend anyone. However God has blessed me in so many ways and my life has completely transformed from my darkness. This week I want to be there for one of my friends that’s really going through depression and she’s pregnant. I pray that I share with her how the community and God and transformed my life. I pray that she will have an open mind and will be open to come to church with me. 🙏🏻💕 have a good weekend everyone. Let’s step out of our comfort zone and spread love and the good news to those that need it, even if it’s prayer.

One faith driven wise risk that I can take this week is to continue following God’s desire and allocating a tenth of my income even though sometimes it can be hard especially when times are tough or we have an unexpected large expense.  Hopefully, I will be able to help someone in need or to be able to give to a cause that can help people.  I have found that by pre-allocating money when a need arises, I do not have to worry about my own expenses and find that helps me in being a cheerful giver.

I believe for me it’s inviting my cousins out more to church. I’ve done it a few times but I don’t do it enough. Another way I can do it is by asking my cousins or non believing friends if I can pray for them or if we can peay before sharing a meal.

One faith-driven, wise risk I can take this week would be to look beyond my current comfort zone in sharing the gospel with others. We just got back from seeing the movie “Nefarious,” (great movie which I highly recommend,) and it really made me think about the lack of urgency and sort of complacency I sometimes have regarding the fate of lost souls. There are so many people that I interact with each day, many of whom may need to hear the gospel message of hope and life, but I only share it with them if our interactions deepen in some way. I pray that my heart for the lost would begin to mirror that of our Lord and Saviours!

Today’s question is a difficult one for me, but I help people I meet when they are in need as much as I can. For example, as much as I can, I help Jenny who is cooking foods for the church. I hope that these will be good influence for them.
