GeA01-5: The Blueprint for a New Beginning

Fri. Sep 12, 2025

Colossians 1:15–20 (NIV84)

15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

We have seen that the Genesis blueprint reveals Christ as the agent of creation. But the Apostle Paul, writing to the church in Colossae, adds two more breathtaking dimensions to His role. He tells us that Christ is not only the means of creation, but He is also its goal and its glue. “All things have been created through him and for him,” Paul writes. The entire universe, from the grandest galaxy to the smallest microbe, was made to find its ultimate purpose in Jesus. And then, as if that weren’t enough, Paul adds, “In him all things hold together.” He is not a retired Creator; He is the active Sustainer. The very atoms of your body cohere from moment to moment only by His continuous, active will.

But there is a problem, and we know it in our bones. We look around at the world and at our own lives, and we see that things are not as they should be. The blueprint has been broken. The masterpiece has been vandalized by sin and death. This is where Paul delivers the final, glorious news. The one who is the agent, sustainer, and goal of creation has also become the agent of re-creation. Through the blood of His cross, Christ is working to “reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven.”

Think of it like this: the Divine Author’s story was hijacked by rebellion. But instead of scrapping the whole project, He wrote Himself into the narrative as the hero who would defeat the villain and restore the original plot. The God who formed the first Adam from the dust of the earth would Himself be formed in a womb. The God who holds all things together would allow Himself to be broken. He is not merely fixing a problem; He is completing His original purpose. The same power that created the cosmos is now at work in you, healing, restoring, and making all things new.

Reflect, Share & Prayer: How does the truth that Christ is not only your Creator but also your Sustainer and Redeemer give you hope for a broken situation you are facing? Say a prayer for that situation.

From Vincent:

Christ as my Creator, Sustainer and Redeemer allows me to face a multitude of struggles. I currently struggle with my family situation at home. I have not talked to both my sisters in 10 years, my father is still drinking every day and I do not know most of my extended family. I find solace Christ as he redeemed me when no one else did. When I had no family, His Church took me under their wing. “For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother” (Mat 12:50). This verse provides me a new lens to see family. As a Sustainer, Christ still provides me hope that I can reconnect with them, even if its years from now. Without his Word and grace, I think I would be left with no one. He is the Light, shining the path towards warmth and love.

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for Creating, Sustaining, and Redeeming me. Although undesserving of love and family, you provided me a New Family. A family that is truly based in your redemptive love. I pray that you knock on my family’s heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Oh God, it has been such a sad couple of days for this country with the assassination of Charlie Kirk. I can’t hold back my tears watching his wife embrace his body. One day each of us will face the pain of losing loved ones, but I know You are our sustainer, and You will carry us through.

Until that day, help us to prepare by putting all our hope in You. Teach us to love You even more than our spouse and children. We were created for You, yet so often we forget and turn people or things into idols instead of worshiping You.

Help us to lead our children into knowing You deeply, to walk in a true relationship with You, and to know You as their Savior. Then we will not live in fear that this world might snatch them away. Help us lift our eyes to You and not let fear or evil intimidate us for we have a God who has already overcome the world.

Lord, help us to be brave like Charlie, to have boldness to share our faith and not shrink back in fear of people. Give us courage, steady our hearts, and let us live in a way that honors You. Thank you for your love and protection over us. Amen!

From Monica

I feel like this week for me was marked by a lot of political content. Not only do I not have the capacity to process these events, but also feel bombarded with so many social media posts and noise. This passage reminded me that the gospel transcends political parties, differing opinions, civil unrest. It gives me peace that we are here not to serve sinful selves, but that we have a higher purpose to serve God, who has already forgiven us of our transgressions.

Lord, we ask for your forgiveness for our sins. Thank you for redeeming us and saving us so that we can continue to have a relationship with you. Thank you for being present in our hard times.

Amy:

When I first heard about my mom’s diagnosis, I couldn’t help but question God – why her? I remember crying so hard when our pastor came to pray for her at our house. Even now, I still have moments when I question and struggle with doubt. But in the middle of those feelings, I hold on to the truth that Christ is not only my Creator, but also my Sustainer and Redeemer. That means my mom’s life is not left to chance. She is in His hands. He holds everything together, even the parts that feel so broken to me, and that gives me hope that He is working even when I don’t see it.

Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer. You know how heavy my heart feels when I think of my mom’s health. You’ve seen my tears and heard my questions, yet You remain patient with me. Please remind me again and again that she is safe in Your hands. Strengthen her body, bring comfort to her spirit, and give us peace as a family to trust in Your goodness. I pray for healing and restoration, and for the faith to keep trusting You no matter what. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
