Yeah definitely not applicable for me. Not even in the near future LOL. This is definitely applicable for Thomas’s near future tho. I can see it. 😂😂. For me, I loved how he talked about guiding your children to God and getting wisdom and advice from God, not from yourself. I think that’s a tough thing to do but it’s so worth it because God is the one that guides us, not our parents. I want to be a parent like that that guides my children to Christ and His guidance more than my own.
“When my children came to me with a question, they learned to expect me to point them to God: “What do you think God wants you to do?” I routinely go to others for advice, and typically only with “huge” decisions, choices, or issues do I turn to God. I want to be more conscientious of where I turn to for direction in my life – it should be God because only He has all of the answers, wisdom, and foresight. He should be the first One I turn to in times of need and help. If I am unable to do that for myself, I will be unable to do that for my friends and eventual family. God, you are Lord of my life and I need to demonstrate that more by surrendering plans, thoughts, and worries to You. Help me to lean on you for understanding and wisdom rather than this world
Growing up, I was taught that parents are angels from God. Parents are the first window to our souls. Kids are blessings to the parents as well as a assignment. In order to become parents that are glorifying to God, we should also humble our expectations for Our child and seek for God’s purpose in the child’s life. We should be intentional with our teaching to them so that one day they can also walk with God personally
Something that stood out to me today was when he said “We need to be in God’s agenda for our kids’ lives so they can experience the abundant life God intends for them.” And while I may not have kids, or even know if kids will be possible one day, I at least know after this lesson that for the kids I may mentor one day, I should be a spokesperson for God when they need to respond to certain circumstances in life. Like you all had mentioned, we want to be able to help them conform to the image of Christ.
I firstly want to thank the Lord for all he’s done, and pray that kids in the future who may look up to me can understand that it’s God who deserves all praise, and that they may conform to the image of Christ.
From don
“For those to whom God entrusts them, children are a special assignment as well as a reward from the Lord. Wise parents understand that God has a special purpose for each child He gives to them, and they should carefully watch to see where God is at work in their lives.”
Each of my children have uniquely specific gifts, abilities, and personalities that God has given them in order that they may be used by Him in very specific ways to accomplish His purposes. What I have observed is that these unique qualities can either become harmful or helpful in their life paths, depending upon their individual choices So, as their father, I feel that it is my responsibility to guide them in choosing the right path- the path God has intended for them- and helping them to develop a personal relationship with Him, as the author of our study points out. My prayer is that each of them will have a very real and personal experience with God, that they would be impacted in such a way as to grow to know Him, to love Him, and to live for Him.
Lord, thank You for each of my children. Help me, as their father, to come alongside of them as they seek to know You and hear Your calling upon their lives. Thank you for the way in which You have already used them to transform my own life, and I pray that they would grow to worship You and love You with all their being. Help me to always remember that they belong to You, and to be a good and faithul steward of what You have entrusted to me.
