The Scripture verse that reminded me of God’s immense power was in John 15:5 and it goes: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” This ties in closely with point #4 on how I am to trust God completely in all circumstances wherever I am at n my life. God is able to call and use me anytime He wants and it is my responsibility to answer Him promptly and follow His instructions. Just as the text says, the Holy Spirit manifests himself through the believers, through me to accomplish God-sized tasks. Those are my growth opportunities and I am to take them in order to serve God better.
God, I praise You for Your power to create, heal, and strengthen relationships. I pray that after this unit on koinonia, I would be constantly reminded of how important it is to be in a loving relationship with You daily. Thank you Lord Jesus for showing me Your power through your church and your believers.
“When conflict arises, leaders may depend on a manual on handling church conflict instead of leading people back to trust in God and to love Him alone.” I like this quote, more as a personal reminder, that I can’t rely on a formula, manual, or other people’s experiences for advice to deal with conflict or issues that arise. They may be helpful, but going to anything or anyone else besides God first shows where I’m putting my own trust. God, may my trust be in You alone and not myself, others, or powers in this world. You’ve done so much more than just resolve conflict that I know I should trust You with everyday things as well
The 2 aspects of koinonia talked about today were significant. The first being the personal aspect of the relationship. You can’t rely on others for this. You can ride the coattails of anyone else’s fellowship with God, even the strongest. It has to be you and God. The second aspect is the complete trust in God. This part in my opinion is the hardest. But it’s also extremely important. Distrust in God is effectively saying “you don’t know what you’re doing I know better” and that’s a very dangerous thought. Trust in God includes trust in his plans and his timing, as well as his discipline. This has got to be one of the hardest aspects of true fellowship with God. I pray that our trust in Him grows. It’s not too much to ask for complete trust in Him, but as flawed humans, we have to build that trust muscle.
Church can possibly lead to shallow relationships and differences despite it promoting growth, outreach, and ministry. The accessibilities provided in the church may be deemed valuable but it’s crucial for an individual to have a personal experience with God. This concept allowed me to realize the difference between knowing God and just knowing of God through church. Church provides a great environment to be surrounded by other believers but one must always work on their own personal relationship with God.
